The Great Pyrenees Library

A dear friend created the Great Pyrenees Library and its content many years ago. In honor of her memory, this site will continue with the vast array of articles and knowledge she shared with us for many years.
The content on this site is made available to educate about the different types of Livestock Guardian Dog breeds. Each breed carries its unique style, yet they have so much in common. LGDs, or Livestock Guardian dogs, do not fetch. They will look at you quizzically and think, “Are you serious?”. That is their JOB!
Livestock Guardian dogs are independent thinkers, and they have to be. Each breed has to distinguish whether something they’re guarding is a threat and, if so, what actions they should take to protect their flock. If you’re looking for a breed that epitomizes natural protection, a Great Pyrenees may be for you. If you’d like a breed that will fetch, sit, come, stay, and LISTEN, I suggest you do more research.
